Hotel Lobby

Inspired by the painting Hotel Lobby by Edward Hopper 1943 but somewhat autobiographical also on reflection Travelling, yet here, stuck in place Using time with wild abandon As if some were apportioned to dormancy The solidity and solidarity of going nowhere The quiet of the empty rooms Dressed for the occasion but dormant Time slows down, conversation stalls Pages go unturned The light dims but never goes out For this is the hotel lobby All life passes by Eventually 4th place Brian Strand Contest

Thank you - writing about paintings is good fun. Just writing whatever comes to mind and see if it looks like a poem at the end :)

Dear Dilly, your evocative poem captures the limbo of the, Hotel Lobby (painting), with vivid imagery where loneliness lives in plain sight of so many. Congratulations for your wonderful podium win in Brain's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

A truly lonely place full of people. Love your poem. It is well written and brings to my mind memories of other places, I will never go back to. Ann

Thank you for your comment, Hopper's paintings cover a lot of urban isolation and loneliness that are common sights really.
