Growing Up and Liking It

At 13 years of age, a pamphlet Showed up in my home. My mother bought it, not to be The subject of a poem. It was intended to explain (A lecture would be worse) The facts of menstruation, Often called the “woman’s curse.” Modess, a manufacturer Of sanitary pads, Produced the booklet; it cost Just a quarter; they made scads. The title always bothered me, For what would be the need To try to get young girls to like A messy monthly bleed? A novel I am reading Brought this little pamphlet back. A character is using it For knowledge she does lack. It’s rare to find a copy So on Amazon they’re hiking it To almost 90 bucks, another Reason for not liking it.

Ninety bucks! Oh my goodness! Really! I do not think they will be "going like hotcakes". I had one too!

I remember as a boy having a recurrent bleeding nose. In time the problem cured itself. Still, I'm thankful I wasn't a girl; I don't think I could have handled two "curses"!!! / Maurice

I earned all of my party money selling "sanitary napkins" in Germany during the 50s. You would not believe what women were using to mop up the curse! On to happier times! Aloha!

A simple talk from someone who knew what they were talking about would have been so much better, don't you think? As a 4-5-6th grade teacher at one time, I had so many little girls who were so scared they were dying, so I'd send them off to the Girls' Room with another girl who had already been through it and knew what to do. Back then it was all I could do, except to wonder what mothers were thinking...or perhaps not....

Wow, Milton! I remember having that first talk with my daughter. Why can’t parents think. ~ Kim
