Grounded
I am dirt
I am the thimble full of earth
That keeps you tethered to this world
Of responsibility
Feet lodged in shallow soil
But mind, heart in the vapor
Of a white haze blowing away
To another time
Another life
You can’t wait to get there
You said so yourself
How many trips around the sun
Did it take
For my buds to burst out from beneath
Your feet planted squarely on top
Of the earth restraining my vines
The leafy wisps pushed up on either side
In front and in back
And still you stepped out
Each time
Leaving a little more free space, centered
To be filled with blossoms
