A fine tribute, Connie. Nesmith + the other Monkees fought to sing, write, produce their own songs. They weren't just a rag tag group of studio or street musicians. They had talent. And their music endures. Best wishes. Brian

This is a lovely tribute to Michael Nesmith and The Monkees, Connie. 1967 was a year when lots of beautiful songs were on offer by famous singers and bands: The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Turtles....a never ending list which takes me down memory lane! ~ Warm regards // paul

I miss hearing music from that era. My husband used to play oldies on CD’s in his pickup truck. I still have them and his truck I try to drive at least every two weeks so the battery won’t die. My daughter is coming to live with us with her baby in March or April and the truck will come in handy then. Thank you. Blessings xxoo

So sad Connie, now there's only Micky left. I was a great fan of The Beatles,I met them in 1965 in London, now sadly John and George are no longer with us.

Yes, and thanks, Connie, for some eye-opening tribute you've posted here, leaving Mickey the last Monkee, at which time will end the rabbit-ears years with them on TV. Just placing you on the know, of my name-changer, but YOU don't need Scrabble for it--Aloha~William!

Yes, I just saw you had changed your name when I read your winning poem in Brian’s contest William. Changing a name has a definite impact on our lives. I changed my name to Marcum Wong in 1999 I believe and it brought wonderful new vibrations into my life. There are so many in this world with the name of Wong, but I am the only Marcum Wong on the net. Thank you William. Blessings xxoo

A touching epitaph to the most musical of the Monkees, a band that contributed significantly to the soundtrack of my childhood. I love their songs "Daydream Believer", "I'm a Believer" (written by Neil Diamond, btw), and "Last Train to Clarksville" though I think the song that brings the biggest smile is "Gonna Buy Me A Dog". Sad to see only one is still alive. Thank you for highlighting Mike's life and contributions to the 60's music scene, and best wishes in Michelle's contest. Hugs ~ John

Thank you John. Their music was also a large part of my youth. I fondly remember the songs you mention which were my favorites too. I am sorry they have passed except for Micky who is still with us. I can imagine how he feels being the last alive. Blessings xxoo

That is true Phyllis. I don’t think of myself as being old until I see my favorite celebrities aging before my eyes. It is because we see ourselves every day but when we haven’t seen our favorite stars for a few years we notice how they have aged. I am sad that all but one is left. Their songs return me to my youth. Thank you Blessings xxoo

He was. He was my favorite because he was the more serious of the group and a wonderful guitarist and writer. He was the most talented of the Monkees yet he was modest about his accomplishments. Sad to lose him and the others too. Thank you blessings xxoo

I was a believer in Michael's music. He was a true musician. Your words had me reaching out to YouTube for his music. "What am I doin' hangin' 'round" is a particular favourite that showcased his singing talent. His mum invented Tipex if I'm correct. Very talented family and will be sorely missed. Cheers - Gary

The monkeys - very popular group, a fave, and loved their songs. Thank -you for sharing with us Connie my friend. Time and years pass through our hour glass - we used to be able to say in those day in 20, 30 years time or so we can go.........., now in 20 years from now, will we still be? An aptly expressed epitaph. Hugs and blessings. Jennifer.

It is sad to see singers of youth pass away. I remember them well. What was meant to be America’s spoof of the Beatles became embraced and far more popular than expected. Thank you Tom. My fondness for their songs continues. Blessings xxoo

wow, He died quite recently. Not sure I'd heard it. You chose a very good one, Connie. I think the cutest one died too. Are any still alive? gosh, they were not all that much older than us!! I love contests like these where we do not have to stress too much because the form is one that everyone can do. Hope to see this one score high.

Thanks Andrea. Micky Dolenz is the survivor of the bunch. Top left in the photo. I loved their carefree songs we could sing along with while cruising around in a car full of friends. To me, he was the best looking, most serious, and most talented guitarist and writer. The studios never imagined they would be as popular as they were. Michael was only three years older than me. Blessings xxoo
