Gratitude For Recent Food
In fourteen ninety two
Upon the sea’s traverse
Europeans discovered food
On the other side of Earth:
The sweet-potato root,
The corn of the land,
And avocado fruits
Delighted White-Man.
Astonishing peppers
Overseas, marched
As potatoes eased hunger
with plentiful starch.
The pineapple prize,
and the squashes, grew large;
Tomato sauce thrived
And green beans wore pods.
Dreamy vanilla
And the strawberry gem
Plus chocolate, the thriller
From America, stem.
And peanuts in pods
And cashews, and pecans…
Let us Thank G-d
For the foods from the land!
