Goodbyes
I saw a man leave today
he had April in his eyes
a hipflask in his pocket
as he said his last goodbyes
and all the ones he left behind
were painting as he went
laying down their colours
at a life they thought well spent
but summers come and summers go
and midnight eventually
and all the while within those eyes
I thought that man was me
