Forgiveness

Forgiveness! Mentioned time and again in the scriptures and taught throughout the world by both religious and non-religious groups alike, forgiveness is something we learn of since the time we are children. Some children never learn of it at all, for they are raised up by ignorant parents who never learned of it in their own childhood. How sad for the world that more and more children are being raised up with an absence of moral teachings such as that of forgiveness! If all could learn to forgive, how sweet the world would be. There would be no cause for wars. Criminal activities would diminish, for if one has the ability to easily forgive another, it's very likely that this individual has at least a fragment of that precious love inside him which God wants for us all to share with one another. How can we condemn others for the very same things we do ourselves? None of us are perfect. In general, we all are very much the same. We will find much peace if we release the anger we hold onto when we feel that we've been wronged. I have a multitude of sins myself, but for some reason, the inability to forgive does not seem to be a serious one for me personally. A best friend once betrayed me very cruelly. I showed my righteous indignation, but at the end of the day, all was forgiven. I am a lover of peace. I bear no grudges though at first, I may complain. In the end, I do not let my anger fester. How wonderful if all would learn to say "I'm sorry" and "I forgive you." These are two of the most important phrases, which if spoken with sincerity, could cure the world of its great poverty of compassion. Whether one believes in God or not, forgiveness just makes sense.

An insightful reminder Andrea that we all need forgiveness. And that when we forgive, it is a gift for both.

Hi Andrea, A work of art Andrea! Well done. I have also forgiven two friends in my life and for both was sincerely sorry that we exchanged angry words. But how does one forget, that is what I struggle with and often pray to God to please help me forget, but how can our brain do that? Hugs, Jennifer.

One never forgets, but for me, things are not that serious to sit around letting them fester. Sometimes you just realize they are not worth being your friends and you just separate amicably. I've been hurt by a few friends but i do not sit around thinking about it. You just move on. i know some personality types struggle with that. My mom is one of them. It's kind of the way people are wired (they either forgive and forget easily or they don't). Have you heard of personality types red/ blue/whites/yellows. The blues, the do-gooders who are often religious, are the ones who actually struggle most with forgiveness.

Forgiveness is key... Without forgiveness, the rose will get burnt by the sun and the rocks raising their foots against nature's foundation.. Beautiful, beautiful, so beautiful and as always, your pen writes in the language of kings through a naturally flowing ink.

Andrea, I think Jesus demonstrated forgiveness best when he "turned the other cheek." And you're right that some children never learn this from their parents, but what a better world it would be if we could all learn this. Your poem is beautifully composed for the contest and I'm sending winning wishes to you. Love, carolyn

Andrea, you have penned us some wise words to live by, but hard to do, well for me anyways, I have been rejected and hurt so much in my life that when it happens I just back away, I guess I hide, and sort of keep it inside of me, though in time I may forgive, I never ever forget. Well done for the contest, a winner for me ~

your words of forgiveness are wise, rather we not do something we must be forgiven for...good luck in the contest

So much to learn from your words, Andrea. It takes a lot of courage to express regrets when pride reigns. Thank you for sharing your personal beliefs and sincere desire to make this world a better place. Certainly so much you put forward to think and reflect on. Best for a win, Andrea.

Wonderful...If you can't say sorry to another, surely you won't be able to forgive yourself...Positive vibes...All the best Andrea

I think it would be hard to forgive someone who had murdered your family. I have seen documentaries of families who sought vengeance and a few who forgave. I find that to be an extreme example which really shows the spirit of forgiveness in action

the popular media fosters psychological cognitive algorithms (cognitive guidance and misdirection by sleight of hand or special effect)...people who watch tv a lot begin to look at the world via programmed algorithms...only pursuing probabilities but not insights, foregiveness, etc

I watch a lot of tv. I don't think it influences me regarding forgiveness one way or the other. However , I know it affects different people in different ways
