My daughter is 23 and diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. Since she posted it, she has received cards and gifts from people who she barely knows or who had actually bullied her in the past. She asked me why people were sending her things just because she had cancer? I told her it wasn't because of the cancer, it was because she truly is a beacon of light in this world, but sometimes people are so busy avoiding the rocks, they forget to thank the lighthouse keeper. So I wrote this in her honor.

FOR LIZZIE I do not live by drawing breath By drink or beat of heart I live by love my purpose to My child all joy impart. My drug, her unexpected smile What e'er the reason be I could for days float on a high And on her laugh OD. As she has grown to womanhood I'm filled with admiration The love she shows to all she meets Regardless of their station. She's never won a Pageant crown Or medal made of gold Yet she is a priceless human being Whose soul I get to hold. She is too perfect for this world Whose judgment's skewed by hate And many may not see her worth Until it's far too late. So I count myself the richest queen My thanks will never falter For I've been blessed with two in one: A treasure and a daughter.

Your poem is beautiful, a true reflection of a Mother who loves her child, boy or girl, with all her heart. It breaks my heart to think of what y'all are facing and I will add my prayers to all others. Thank God that y'all have the blessing of each other. Loved your poem, Cindi ... CayCay
