Footprint On the Moon

"That's one small step for a man. One giant leap for mankind!" Neil Armstrong's immortal words will e'er be etched in our mind! With that he left a footprint for all eternity that time will ne'er erase, On our neighbor The Moon in humankind's conquest of space! For a moment in time this brave astronaut held the world in awe; All peoples were united in brotherhood at the wonderment they saw! Neil and his fellow astronauts worked tirelessly to see the mission complete. Brave pioneers who paved the way for future intergalactic challenges to meet! Entry for Carolyn Devonshire's "Footprints" poetry contest Note: Research indicates that "That's one small step for (a) man" was what Armstrong said and he insisted that is what he said, but NASA edited his statement slightly to eliminate the (a) and we generally have accepted the NASA version.

As I sat watching the footage from the moon, totally enthralled, I too wondered about that footstep. Great minds Robert! I wrote a poem called Historic Event that tried to capture that event that literally left me speechless along with the entire world! Congratulations on capturing that moment of magic!

Wold you believe I might have employed the same creative interpretation of the "Footprints" theme? I actually researched footprints and tried to find out if the prints Neil Armstrong left on the moon might still be there. Very creative, Bob! There were many extraordinary poems in this contest. Congratulations on a well-deserved win. And thank you for supporting the contest. Hugs, Carolyn

I remember watching this incredible historic moment on TV back in July 1969. Yes, the world held its breath, and at that moment the world had become one! Beautifully written, my friend, Robert. Thank you for the memory! Blessings.

It seemed surreal that man walked on the moon - what an achievement, a challenge, an adventure, and i'm sure a little scary, concerned if they would ever get back to earth. Well penned my friend, great poem and best of luck in the contest - hope you are doing well Bob. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

An amazing achievement, a shame JFK didnt live to see it. RIP too, Michael Collins who passed away recently, his role too was important to the mission of the moon landing. Good luck in the contest Bob. Tom

I was with Roger Ebert that night and his friends. In those days, we were all Americans. Not anymore, we are on the yellow brick road to Communism. I mean all nations. Controlled by King Covid. We kneel at his feet?..all countries do. Fear means control of all nations. Leaders have no Reason to let it go. It's more powerful than God(people think.) Best wishes Pangie Best wishes Pangie This was good verse Bob..

Thank you, Belle. The moon is obviously very special to you and your hubbie, not only romantically as newly weds but also for the history made that night on the moon. Best to you - Bob

Good thing Neil isn't up on the Moon now. He'd have to justify 'mankind,' instead of 'person' in our gender-tortured world. ~ Still Undecided at age 70. lol.

Very perceptive as usual, Gershon. Yep, you are so right - the politically correct mob would be roused to battle had Neil used that term today! Good on you always - Bob
