Flower Girl

Daddy was in Vietnam We never talked about it He passed away Before he could say What he thought it meant  To carry his country’s weight All up on his back Mama marched with Dr. King She even once shook his hand But she passed away Before she could say  If where they had been Made her feel  That she mattered then  Auntie was a flower girl Drifting on a cloud She lived to say Maybe one day We'll tune in to the world One thing she knows We're not ready now August 6, 2019
