The gilding of the canopies
calls upon Autumn's Midas touch.
Whereas amber and ruby leaves
are inlaid with gold filigree.
Jack Frost's icy kiss enhances
the gilding of the canopies.
And with orange and crimson tints,
Autumn dabbles in abstract art.
Fallen leaves crackle underfoot
as squirrels scamper for acorns.
The gilding of the canopies
tells them it's time to gather nuts.
Honking, migrating geese fly south,
over blazing flames of scarlet.
But that inferno was sparked by,
the gilding of the canopies.
