Early Morning Cat
A cat opened its eyes in the morning light,
While other cats were fast asleep,
And saw a bird high in soaring flight.
And the ginger cat by the garden wall
Hearing no sound, save its contented purr,
Hardly bothered to stir at all.
But the sound the awoken black cat heard
Before that bird chorused spreading dawn
Was the sound of the early morning bird
Who, first to awake and swift to rise,
Alone took advantage of the morning skies.
