I haven't ever seen a Kingfisher that I can remember. I don't know if we have them near or at the coast here or not. I need to look them up. I have seen them on the internet and in my bird book. Very descriptive haiku that you have penned. I appreciate the time spent at my page. Sara

Kingfishers are spread throughout the world. However, they are not coastal birds...you need to be more inland in rural areas that are abundant with streams and small rivers. Cheers, Sara! :) john

Thank you, Connie. The poem, although not my favourite of the Japanese collection (that being: The Watchman) is, I think, the cleverest one. As you are obviously aware the "Ruddy Kingfisher" is an actual species coloured bright red; I can well imagine someone being woken by that whistle in the early hours and wishing they had a shoe to hand to throw -- "ruddy Kingfisher!" Lol. Happy Easter, Connie!!
