Daisy
Oh, I remember Daisy from my youth.
Memories filled with joy, and that’s the truth.
I never knew a calf could be so sweet.
She smelled like clover in the summer heat.
I threw my arms around her, hugged her tight.
Her mother had been stolen in the night.
She cried for her the way a calf will do.
Then she listened hard for her mama’s moo.
I knew she wanted mama's milk real bad.
She sucked my little hand, that's all I had.
I loved that little calf with big brown eyes.
We'd meet each morning as the sun would rise.
I came home from school on my saddest day.
My step-dad had taken Daisy away.
Sometimes I remember how hard I cried.
And sometimes still, I brush a tear aside.
I think that I was seven at the time.
To have a pet like Daisy was sublime.
