Cul De Sac
Assalaamu’alaikum to you
who have tied me down
with forlorn expectations of togetherness!
I persevere and cope with this rope of hope
that restricts me from seeking more
from other sources and places.
I tan under the scorching sun rays
and I’m beaten by the pinching torrents
of the rain, and I’m drenched!
In broad day light you display
promising smiles that comfort me.
Yet you abandon me at night
to the company of my loneliness,
while you hasten to enjoy caresses
in the embrace of your favourite contender.
But thanks to the lightning that helps
to illuminate the acts and scenes.
I’m too weak and not clever
to fight or think to decide.
After all I’m not Allah to whom
a rival must not be associated.
But a wise man will only say,
“Thank you it’s not too late for me
to wish you well at the care of your only spouse.”
Since I am not a wise man,
I will emulate the wise man.
