Climbing Mt Hope

I reach the edge of the woods and glimpse the summit: high, far – and daunting. I must not look up too much, for I might lose courage. I need patience, to string steps on the thread of my breath and trust that I will arrive. But every now and then, I shall pause and look backwards to see how far I have come. July 9, 2018

Life is about taking paths. Walking into that great unknown called the future. Question is- does one do so eyes opened or eyes closed. Love this deep poem, especially the closing.. A fav...

Thank you, Andrea. I was actually writing this *while* climbing up the mountain. I thought about it while walking, and when we rested (which was often necessary since I don't handle high altitude well), I scribbled it down. It felt like my breath was a string that pulled me along, and all I had to do was take step after step after step without giving up.

Hi, AGnes, years ago I and some other folks here did contests on Epulaeryu. I have not seen the form used in a long time! Not that great of a form, but it's easy to do.

I like your poem. It has so much: Purpose, pressure, perseverance, progress, perspective and pleasure. (I tried to find a word for hope that begins with a "p". "Pencouragement" might work for poets.)

I choose to interpret this as a metaphor, Agnes, although it could be taken literally. Splendid either way. I love the positive message.

Thanks, Daniel. As I was experiencing it literally, I felt that this also serves metaphorically. I am glad you saw the metaphor.

Thank you, Arturo. It always astonishes me that by putting step in. front of step, one finally does reach what seemed so far away

And no better feeling when you do reach that summit, but it's not given , you have to earn it. Great write Agnes. Tom
