Blue Skies Over Sunflowers

In eastern lands, where once did roam The winds of peace, and fields of home Now echoes sound of bombs and gun As war in Ukraine, is far from done The sky once blue, now turned to gray With smoke and dust, that won't away And children's laughter, now replaced By cries of pain, in this historic place With each new day, new battles fought As brothers clash, with brothers sought And homes once filled, with love and grace Now lie in ruins, in this darkened space Oh, how we long, for peace to reign And end this war, this endless pain Let hearts unite, in hope and prayer For Ukraine, for peace, and love to share.

I am completely with you. There's no good reason for waging war like this. Working out differences through diplomacy could save a lot of misery.

Congratulations! Indeed a stain upon this present world! Some just want to rule the world, can’t let peace reign and destroy even their own people in the process!

Fighting will not solve an unresolved issue. (Humans never learn). Your thoughts caress softly around me and my heart. This is tender, emotional and inspiring, all at the same time. I'm praying for Peace. Congratulations Aysha, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. ~ Hugs, Brandy

Congratulations Aysha on POTD! You said you normally shy away from politics and yes sometimes we have to stand up for what is right. I am glad to see your beautiful poem free from the politics and only truth and love for the country and its people. You have my prayers! ~Anaya

Fine piece congratulations on POTD! As the iconic World War I poem about poppies growing in Flander's Field, harrowing events often create insightful heartrending poetry. Robert

….”and homes once filled with love and grace,” is a wonderful line and the brutal leaders that instigate these cruel wars should have their homes torn up and the loved ones killed and see how it makes them feel. A well deserved POTD and welcome to PoetrySoup. Blessings, SuZ

Aysha, I cannot imagine how awful it must be for you, all of you. To the rest of us: Let's get serious. We can't sit around until Ukraine is levelled to the ground. I saw that one country has committed $50 million "OVER 5 YEARS!" What??? Now or never, I'm afraid! Elizabeth
