Before The Day Turned Into Night Poetry Contest

Sitting on sand under the sun, watching my grandkids having fun, I observed how sanderlings can be so close to us when they run. It was such a warm summer day. Looking at the sea gulls at play, at the sun glints from the sun’s rays, at the sea’s blue hues on display. While admiring the awesome sight, my joy, delight turned into fright. I recalled the Galveston’s plight before the day turned into night. When the sea surged, thousands perished The same sea that I just cherished…

What a masterful switch at the end. I was mid-way in reminiscing similar scenes, when my stomach dropped at the tragedy. It reminded me of other disasters, like the tsunami in Phuket 2004. It seems that everything beautiful can have disasters too in this world.

Hello, Jeanette. Thank you. I was in Galveston in 2005 for work. I heard and saw the pictures of the devastation of Galveston Storm of 1900. I was there again in 2019 with family, with time to soak in the sun and have fun. That was when I remembered ... Thanks again.
