Beast I Know
I fell for the monster under my bed
He promised things I've never had
Opened my eyes to a future
I've never even dreamed of.
I fell for the monster under my bed,
He smiled and held my hand.
Through the good and bad.
So mesmerized was I,
So in love,
I did not see the danger ahead.
He clasped my heart,
Encapsulated my whole world.
When his teeth glinted in the night,
I saw a glorious smile filled with love.
When his fingers squeezed too tight,
I imagined it was his desperation to hold me.
I fell for the monster under my bed,
And not for a single moment,
Did I wonder why I called him
Monster.
Until one night I awoke,
To find him standing over me.
The sting of the moonlight
Illuminated him in a new right.
His teeth shined angrily,
A hungry sneer cursed his lips.
His hands reached for me,
Nails sharp and deadly.
His eyes possessed my answer,
And for the first time,
I knew why my heart ached to escape.
I fell for the monster under my bed,
He promised me things I'd never had.
But that's why I call him monster.
Because of his empty promises unfulfilled
By his empty heart.
