Appeal
A multi-faceted facade
shining in the air,
gleaming rays of confidence
that radiate everywhere..
It's shameless pursuit
makes impressionable minds stare,
and wish they could embody boldness
and pretend that they don't care..
Now they question what they have,
as well as what they've earned..
they're trapped by what they see;
they're sense of self is now perturbed..
Appeal is so powerful
with the capacity to turn
the axis of opinion
that controls what is learned
as well what is conditioned
and reflected in our behavior.
Pride, our slave master;
Validation, our savior.
Acceptance viewed as grace,
for the likes of which we labor;
working overtime shifts
to ensure our lawn matches our neighbors'...
