A True Champion
"A True Champion"
by: Eric L. Boddie
Knowing you were 24 when you also retired an eight
Only one g.o.a.t. in my Lifetime has achieved that fate
Be it 18 or 81, a little more than everything is what he gave
Even though he wasn't playing baseball, he had so many saves
Belief in one's self is a lesson he truly taught
Remember all the last days, how many times was 60 caught
Yet, he didn't stop for there are still battles to be fought
As you must understand, perfection of his craft is all he sought
Nothing I saw him do was something that could be bought
That's why the truth of what happened should never be distraught
And to Ascend with one's child is something I am simply unable to describe
Along with two coaches, two mothers, two daughters and a pilot touches deep inside
And about them, it saddens me that I really don't know much
I just hope and Pray that their Lives Are Things God Has Touched
I, too, wear the number 8 as Dolemite of the Fall 1998 line of the Alpha Pi chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. entitled the Blue Renaissance so I was destined to be a fan of Kobe's so you know that I was touched by this tragedy. With God, however, there is absolutely nothing we can't endure. My Prayers and condolences go out to everyone affected by this. God Will Pull us all through....
