A Rose Is Like No Other
How eagerly I come to you
in early spring
for hidden in your essence
is fragrant ecstasy
wrapped in layers of soothing softness
with shapely petals that unfurl
to the rhythm of the sun.
Your lushness entices me
as you reveal your endless varieties
of spectral colors
a veritable feast for the eyes
from palest of milky whites
to darkest of plums
my heart thrills to see
your lovely beauty unfold.
I see your flower gems
scattered hither and thither
along the way
from humble yards among the weeds
to well planned gardens lined in neat rows
yet it matters not wherever you grow
whether from hilltop high or valley low
there is nothing so splendid as the rose.
