A Piece of Cake

A young girl came into the bookstore with her family… directly to the children’s section they made their way and when she placed three books upon the counter she proudly said, “Today is my birthday!” I leaned over to wish her a happy birthday as she smiled up a me… “I got 3 books,” she said, “for my birthday wishes…3 things I want to be!” “Oh, I can see you as a doctor I smiled…and as a pilot how high you’re going to soar… and I have no doubt,” I said holding up her third book, “you’ll be the greatest dinosaur!” She was happy with her choices……Doctor…pilot…dinosaur… and I again wished her a happy birthday as they exited the store. I felt honored that to me…she made her wishes known… and as she waved goodbye…I added to her wishes…some wishes of my own… Just a few wishes for her I wanted to address… I made a wish that her life will be filled with happiness… I wished for a family and friends who love her… who will help to make her life worthwhile… I wished for someone to grow old with who will always make her smile. I wished her a life filled with as much joy as possible and a minimum of turmoil… and if she wants….some children of her own and grandchildren she can spoil. My final birthday wish for her was that she be the best doctor/pilot/dinosaur every moment she’s awake… which, if all my other birthday wishes for her come true… should be a piece of cake.

If wishes could make it so... life would be a piece of cake for everyone. You've written a fine story/poem, Jim.
