A Night In Hell

I laid me down my bed to rest: ---and dreamt a little space. I can’t say how it turned a dream: ---because it was so real My flesh, my bone, myself were burned. ---a fire that could not quench, I screamed, I cried and all I saw: ---were souls who waste in hell. I thought of how I had gone there: ---and how I could escape. The more I think, the more I waste: ---my thoughts so condemned me. My past, the life I lived in sin: ---were shown to me like film. My God, My God! I had to cry: I need a second chance! My early days were just and fair. ---an infant-righteous boy, My mum had done her best for me, ---she showed me way to God. I was so close to Priest and Monk, ---but how came all my doom? Since when I left my father’s ways, ---I had myself to blame. And now that God has spared my life, ---therez still a lot to do. I pledge my help to spread the work: ---to souls who live in sin. I’ll preach, I’ll teach, I’ll save, I’ll help; ---Whatever else to do, When God will knock, my soul is safe, ---forever, I’ll be glad.
