A New Year Prayer
We pray that our country can rediscover its moral compass
We pray that capitalism and greed not be constant companions
We pray that terrorism be forever branded as the vile and criminal act that it is
We pray that the aged and the down trodden be treated with dignity and respect
We pray that the one percent come to view sharing as a redeeming act
We pray that hunger becomes a distant memory in the annals of mankind
We pray that the religions of the world come together under the banner of love
We pray that our prayers not echo unanswered this day and throughout eternity
And that the deafening silence be ended as humanity is wilting under its weight
