A Moment To Forget

“Who are you?” One queries the Other “I have never seen here you before.” “I have been here from the beginning,” the Other replies “Three-score and seven years, not a minute more.” “Nonsense!” One sneers with bared teeth “Surely I would not forget one so ugly, I fear.” “You should stop now,” the Other declares “Before you forget why I am here.” One scratches his bulbous nose Lined with crimson web The Other silently reflects before— With mumbled words, the silence begins to ebb “I think you are a liar,” “An ugly liar,” One resonates with laughter The Other smiles in duplication “So, you have told me before, before and ever after.” “Who are you?” One queries the Other “I have never seen you before.” “You said that a moment ago, old friend” “Now think for a moment more” “Come closer, come closer” the Other beckons “It will be clear as glass as our hours kindle,” “Reflecting upon your silly questions,” “Forgotten memories will certainly dwindle” “You are old and bald” the little One quips “And a liar, liar, liar too!” “I know for a fact— “I have never seen you!” Morning silence falls upon the room Blue-gray eyes locked in a stare The One and The Other Separated only by the mirror’s glare
