A Lady In Waiting
The girl stared through a window while the glass wept painted rain
As every blessing she had shared came back to her again,
Through night blessed eyes her visions cried when faces came to call
And with a sense of soft surprise, she let the curtain fall,
Yet though her visions couldn't see, she heard their soothing song
Dance softly round within her heart, where dreams and prayers belong,
And as she rose to trim the lantern wick that flickered in the shade
She heard the voices drift away, and felt the shadows fade.
Then she reached out for her violin, and stroked it with the bow
And everywhere her music touched was polished in it's glow,
She played with so much joie de vivre, that heaven shed a tear
For every note was sanctified, and angels hold no fear,
As log smoke from the glowing hearth wound softly through the room
Bound together with her music just like ribbons of the gloom,
The wall clock pendulum had stopped, for time was waiting too
Until the girl laid down her violin, and walked back to the view.
Again she drew the curtains back, and touched the diamond pane
Then she looked up to the heavens, as the rain clouds danced again,
For they celebrated music just as music loves to give
Satin soft appreciation of how good it is to live,
And as the clouds drew back their curtains to release the coming day
The sunlight touched her golden hair in just the same old way
Then she sighed with silken pleasure and her smile lit up once more
And watched the blue replace the grey, to let the skylarks soar…
