For This or That Vol 25 poetry contest by Edward Ibeh - Incarnate.  4 May 2024

Angels are unable to handle these 'Sylvia Plath' sorrows, hiding their halos - mute to my concerns. Love has abandoned me, left me to decay in an open grave, where flesh eating insects devour my motionless corpse. Yet, I'm a victim of my own demise, stranded upon sand dunes, as a martyr for sacrificial offerings cursing my selfless 'lighthouse' conduct, guiding lost ships through tormenting storms. In fading light, I'm shivering, lips quivering, resembling a solitary ancient oak tree, with black, bitter bark, freezing, despite June's sunshine blazing. My once golden roots, now sour, weaken, crumbling under hardened, heated clay. My 'Frida Kahlo' soul resembles a weary traveller, craving for manifestations of rain. Dehydrated in darkness, an orchestra of demons, lurk behind misty shadows. Epitomized incarnate images of Satanic messengers, stalking in echoes of self - slaughter. Impersonating chivalrous comrades, seducing the sanity of my 'Oscar Wilde' mind. These 'Van Gogh' eyes exhausted from existence are a shroud of obsidian mystery. An embodiment of emotions, feeling pain scorch in deep crimson stains, eternally engraved like an unwanted tattoo - yet they remind me....  I'm still alive but I know there is beauty in death.

Silent One, you certainly took a dark turn for this contest. There are plenty of people who are plagued with unpleasant thoughts or who are tired of living and you capture that line of thinking with amazing word precision. Amazing you are! Thank goodness we're experiencing the opposite side of the coin.

You convey great emotions in your poem, few alliterations but plenty of wonderful imagery. Is there beauty in death? Once I thought so, but no longer. Life is too precious. Yet I always pray for a happy death.

"Love has abandoned me, left me to decay in an open grave, where flesh eating insects devour my motionless corpse." This lament rising from your heart is soul hitting! The reference in your first stanza to Sylvia Plath has set the tone of the poem. As the poem progresses, there is again reference to Van Gogh, who despite his talent and fame suffered from depression and heartache. Altogether the poem is so poignant and powerful. Wish you happier days ahead, dear Silent One

It seems Love has abandoned you, leaving you in an open grave with flesh-eating insects devouring your motionless corpse. YIKES! You got my attention.Yet, I sense that although your body may require sustenance, your spirit remains unafraid of the unknown. Your references to the Greats like Oscar Wilde,Van Gogh and Sylvia Plath make your mesmerising poem truly outstanding. This poem stands above the rest, and in my eyes, a Winner. Good luck in the contest...Hugs

I hear a troubled soul in your words. What honesty in your lines. Your poem evoked feelings of compassion and respect for your courage. I loved your Sylvia Plath reference. I especially liked these lines: Impersonating chivalrous comrades, seducing the sanity of my 'Oscar Wilde' mind. Best wishes with the contest, Sara One would need to be familiar with Syliva and Oscar to gain deeper meaning to your soulful words.

Thank you Sara, the references to the brilliant minds is how they were tortured souls, misunderstood, tormented by their demons or tormented and not accepted by the public... Appreciate you visit.

Dear Silent One, What depths of despair you write with haunting honesty, capturing the raw anguish of a soul in turmoil. Your really show the inner turmoil and external decay, echoing the struggles of the human condition. Yet amidst the darkness I think you show that there is a glimmer of resilience, a recognition of the beauty that can be found even in the depths of despair. I loved your courage to confront these emotions which is a testament to your strength, and I offer my blessings for your journey towards healing and self-discovery. Daniel

Dear silent one, this poem, really made me tear up, its so deeply poignant and powerful how you’ve conveyed emotions in the most eloquent manner using so many references. I found it really soul hitting how youv startes the poem with sylvia plath, and how you’ve written “ Yet, I'm a victim of my own demise, stranded upon sand dunes, as a martyr for sacrificial offerings“ whoa! That literally made me picture someone in a place where theres all sand dunes, and contemplating, selfless yet offering beyond they can, while feeling like a barren abandoned traveler where love and light they give cannot be felt … “ These 'Van Gogh' eyes exhausted from existence are a shroud of obsidian mystery. An embodiment of emotions,” this hits the hardest! And left me tearing up along with

The last line! Sigh. Very moving write! And its beyond creative of you to use so many poetic techniques here! “ feeling pain scorch in deep crimson stains, eternally engraved like an unwanted tattoo - yet they remind me.... I'm still alive” sometimes, stains, scars, pain, is all that we have with us, that reminds us that we are alive! What an impeccable take on incarnate! One that is very different to mine but you definitely nailed it. And i can feel that this comes from a deep place! Sigh! Fave it is! Best wishes for the contest
