Growing Old “Ain’t” For Sissies
Miracle Man
1/28/2025
Advanced age took from me my aspirations,
often health matters top my list of concerns.
I’ve spent time recovering from ablations,
and relive my past expecting no returns.
My remaining years are misnamed as gilded,
While in many cases they resemble rust.
Things I once accomplished I wish I still did,
but it's in God’s hands that I still place my trust.
Life sure ain't for sissies
It takes a strong and a willing heart
To conquer the everyday problems
Greeting us with a smile is an art
It's easy to give in to doom and gloom
To grumble and always complain
But no one's gonna help make it better
You're the one who's holding the reins
Here's what I learned a long while ago
If you greet everyone with a smile
Chances are they'll smile right back
You've made someone happy for a while
But listen to this, there's a residual effect
You've raised your spirits as well
You'll go around with song in your heart
You'll be ringing the happiness bell
So the end result of all of this chatter
You control how your day will turn out
Happy as a lark or filled with despair
The choice is what life's all about!
Luscious scent of crimson flowers
Magical dance of eventide showers
Rolling hills dip to verdant valleys
Poetry's for sissies, for girls named 'Aly'
Glittering stars illumine the night
Soaring falcons, majestic in flight
Dewdrops, now snowflakes, grace winter's map
For cryin' out loud: Who writes this crap?
Ambrosial nectar, sparkling grapes on the vine
Floating on air, fueled by cognac and wine
Romantic poetry's fragrance cunningly slays---
The fiercest of dragons at the end of the day
When growing up, thought poems were for sissies
Sure was misguided, it now allows for my sillies
To come front and center
Hold on to your dentures
Don't want you to pop a split back of your civvies
We old folks know what day it is
by the things we don't repeat!
And when Tuesday rolls around
We drag the garbage to the street!
Wednesday means the can comes in
And NEVER would we forget
That way we know its Thursday
And on Friday we can sit!
Saturday and Sunday
company's at the door
look forward to the gifts
Who could ask for anything more?

Touching deep inside
Feeling my way through
Avoiding all false pride
To find what I should do
Open up the skies
Let the rain fall down on me
I’ll catch the drops and stop the cries
Water flowers, swim the sea
Life is not for sissies
I’ll trust the voice within
Get up off my knees
Bow my head and win

Scorching sun,
Settling skyscraper
Streams of streets,
Sirens sighing, Skinny sissies
