They are all naked under their clothes, he said.
True enough.

She is pretty.
He scoffed.
She is kind and generous.
He kept waving his hand, encouraging her to tell him more.
An expert at not having to hold up his end of a conversation....

Its huge mouth open to eat.

Under the ground, a mother
Rabbit nurses her young.

A boy lays sleeping,

None is as pleasant as home....

Pretending the other does not exist.

My family thought this was a huge mistake

Some of the relatives began to make fun of me.
Mandrake lovingly slipped arsenic into their tea.

Except maybe the once-healthy lion, who is dying next door....

Are you a witch, a faerie or a pirate queen?
She giggles and she nods her head.
I am a gargoyle and a dragon too, she says.
Then she pirouettes.  She is wearing a crown and cowboy boots.
Seven-years-old, and she knows no limits.
Which one are you at this second? I ask her.
“A faerie? A witch or a pirate queen?”
She laughs. “I am a princess cowboy,” she replies.
Wise beyond her years....

I have a pup called Sheeba
And Muttley is her mate,
And when it comes to dinner time
My pups are never late.

They ate my Gargoyle Monster Set,
They ate my teddy-bear,
They ate my pet goanna,
They just didn't seem to care.

They ate my budgie Hercules,
They ate my mother's mat,
Now they waddle everywhere,
My pups are very fat.

as if this terrifying statue of scariness is a good thing of which to boast.
the kindergarteners were screaming as they got off the tour bus.
it took weeks for us to simmer them down, me and my teacher pal Gus.

They could all give you a scare, maybe even a fright.
But the one that terrifies me the absolute most,
Is not a ghoul, gargoyle, gangster, or sinister ghost.

I am terrified of Beaky Man. He’s trouble with a tee.

Glaring at passengers
Most never smile

They head for the El
They’re headed out west
Where they live with their families
Who think they’re the best….

Gargoyle glares as they get off the train.
Hates them soundly with his mean concrete brain.

His life until two thousand and twenty
Now he waits for people, there ain’t many.

Did they die?  He asks his gargoyle mate.
