Something Special
See there Santa, his fingers drumming,
scratching his head, catalog thumbing.
The night before his big run,
"What to give my honey bun?"
It's December; Christmas is coming!

Night Falls
Every weekend,
ready to relax,
I go fishing with a friend
The is barely no catch
But I admire her company
Sharing stories, we sail
Night falls and we return

My Contst Pom
An artist rolls his brush full of vibrant color across a Canvas
A window to a distant world soon forms, a Catalog or Atlas.
A land of curious blooms, and candy floss
Odd bits of colorful stalk brim floating moss.
This land of flamboyant fun, and pinkish bananas....

Je Ne Je Ne Sais Quoi
Science is a tool to skew the world,
in form its weakness shows
To measure, rate, and catalog,
what in essence stays unknown
I’m not against its formulas,
but the philosophy it breeds
Its laws to serve and fertilize
—a deeper planted seed

Hello, My Name Is Marti
Hello,
My name is Marti-not short for anything
you won't see my name in a card catalog
because I've never written a novel
or even a short story-well-not one
that's been published
You might find my name online
but it won't be because I'm famous
I shy from limelight
but my name will be among you
on each poem I share...

Christmas Catalog 1957
Christmas catalog 1957
We fought over it,
It was our way to heaven
Dreaming of this, that and the other.
Arguing until we were separated
by our mother
We circled the things we wanted,
we two,
The whole toy catalog was circled
when we were through
Christmas catalog 1957,
it was a step closer
to Christmas heaven….....

Awakening
David's awakening was via mail order catalog
and the contents of his mother's lingerie drawer,
which she had introduced him to.
He lived alone in the house that she had bought.
He was never David when his mother came to visit;
he was always Debbie.

An Ugly Ad
“Shop now, pay later”
Those are the words of a catalog retailer.
I see the ad to the right of the screen.
It is one of the ugliest ads I’ve ever seen.
This guy has a mustache and a strawberry nose.
Letters are fastened to his teeth which he shows.
I hardly think it is good marketing strategy
to display his face that looks so ugly.

Used With No Confusion
it's another
torn day
to take
the latest
Victoria Secrets
catalog that has just
arrived
so in
the out
house i
stare
unaware
that my hands
and
fingers are
turning pages
countlessly
untold to in turn
tear and then twist
against
any and all
by chance resistance
but her
photo face
has become
my
toilet

Christmas Wish
. for public domain
Choose a smile for me from your catalog,
so vast and rich,
so warm and bright,
so full to light
the darkest night.
Tell me a story from your library,
true to our hearts,
true to our lives,
true to our souls,
but not too true.
And leave me with your finest memories,
when we part ways,
when we cliche,
when nerves fray
through long cold days....

Fighting Over Christmas Catalog
The 1959 Sears Christmas Catalog is here
My sister and I are taking turns circling things we want.
Every page has circles, stars, hearts, from our pens.
We are supposed to be getting fifty cents a week allowance.
We figure this up.
In a year we should have $26.00.
We begin planning how we will each spend $26.00
forgetting for a few hours that we have saved $1.25 total this year....

Uncle Charlie
Uncle Charlie
Miracle Man
6/13/2022
He was older than old Dick Tracy,
more informative than a Sear’s catalog.
The stories he told were often racy,
but his life was taken by a one eyed dog.*
*A greyhound Bus with one headlight,
that came streaking across the land.
It mangled his body, what a gruesome sight,
he died with his cane pole in his hand.
Not really. LOL

what to do where to go
I have so many choices
what to do?
where to go?
whom to call?
the entire day is mine
I could garden
clean the porch
sweep the kitchen
I rapidly toss these ideas aside
I already picked up sixty thousand pieces of catalog from the back bedroom
the puppy fought me for them the entire time
it was his mess
I look at the puppy
what to do?
what do you think?
He gave me an enormous yawn
I agreed
We went back to bed....

Stretch Screen
STRETCH SCREEN
We study the flowers in the field,
One by one...
Discover their properties and what they yield,
Numbering the petals...
We classify them by leaf, and by their seeds,
We give them names...
Discovering new trees, fungus, and weeds,
One by one...
We catalog thousands, living and dead,
Perspective is close...
Unwittingly lifting a tenacious head,
we finally see ... the field.

A Peasant's Abode
The cloud spreads over
a humble, humorous hut
built amidst shrubs.
Lone as an island,
guarded by tiny, tall trees
…a peasant’s abode.
Coming home to rest
after the day’s duty, tired
…a famished farmer
Cottage with peasant
coming home with a duty
…hung on his shoulder
the title is ‘Cottage with Peasant Coming Home a painting by Van Gogh
