O yon Loch Ness Monster
is come out of the lake
through all the wide border
his tail left a wake
and save his fire-breathing
he weapons had none
he swam all unharmed
and fair maidens he won
so faithful in love
yet so very messy
there never was wee beastie
like the young dragon Nessie
(With apologies to Sir Walter Scott)
With clouds dispersing above Loch Ba,
to where would we go? And just how far?
We followed the track for more than two hours
listening to birds enjoying the flowers:
meadow pippit, willow warbler
curlew, lapwing and skylarks,
bog asphodel and milkwort,
ragged robin and lousewort,
plenty of pignut and wild thyme.
The remembrance has more value
than contriving a rhyme!
Around us the trees alder and oak
contorted old rowan and birch
all covered in lichen and mosses.
After lunch we returned along the shore
with grebes, geese a raptor and so much more.

Staring hard
she believed
it was there.
But no luck
as she prayed
for a glimpse.
As she sighed
it crept up.
Her surprise...
a tricube written 28th January for Sara's contest
I long to traipse across lavender heathered hills
and look across the North Sea as a winter wind chills.
Again, to dwell in a cottage, nestled in a green glen
or traverse Scotland's burns, I yearn. Do ya ken?
Years ago I sat upon Loch Lomond's misty banks
and to the beautiful Highlands I offered my thanks
for rugged terrain, lowlands and plains, and Aberdeen.
Haunting bagpipe songs, leaves me feeling serene.
My heart longs to wander free as I stand and listen
to gulls over the Hebrides while Atlantic waters glisten.
There's a stirring deep within my heart and my soul
to wear my clan's plaid and upon Ayr Beach to stroll.

My friends search for happiness
as if it were the Loch Ness
But Joy is over with the find
Its search continues, a state of mind
Well this is my story from way back
you'll probably have heard about me
there's been quite a few sightings
over the years people wonder what they see
Many books have been written
so many opinions if I'm real or not
for I'm what I am no matter what
despite everything I've never been caught
I've watched it all from down under
in the waters of Loch Ness, I've seen
filmmakers have come here
hoping to catch me, they're so keen
So down in the depths of the Loch
there I've been for so very long
no living body has lived long as me
outlived you all so very strong
Now that I've written this piece
sent up from the dark and deep
I bet you are starting to wonder
when does Nessie ever go to sleep?
So have I convinced you?
that I'm really one to fear
lurking in your mind's eye
or like mud not at all clear!
Is the Loch Ness Monster real?
Has anyone ever seen her?
I have never seen her,
Except on ‘The Simpsons’.
My family and I went on a boat trip on Loch Ness,
We never saw the Loch Ness Monster.
Many people have looked for her,
With binoculars and cameras.
When Mr Burns, Homer Simpson, Professor Frink and Groundskeeper Willie
Look for the Loch Ness Monster on ‘The Simpsons’,
They drain the loch until it is completely empty.
They capture her and take her to Springfield where they live.
Some people look for the Loch Ness Monster from the road,
Others look for her from a boat.
There are lots of possible sightings,
No one can be sure if they saw her or not.
They capture what they think is the Loch Ness Monster with a camera,
They don’t drain the loch like ‘The Simpsons’ characters do.
Draining the loch is not recommended,
‘The Simpsons’ characters do all sorts of silly things.
If you ever go looking for the Loch Ness Monster,
Take binoculars and a camera.
Don’t be silly like ‘The Simpsons’ characters,
Don’t drain the loch until it is completely empty,
Don’t capture her the way ‘The Simpsons’ characters did.

There once was a distressed Monster Loch Ness
Whose office-at-home was really a mess
She'd lost her press clippings
Midst daredevil flippings
Lost her pj's too ~ so couldn't undress
He was seen in a fog of velvet,
And clothed in mists of satin.
His life the stuff of legends.
A dweller of enchanted waters!
His beginning had not a future,
Yet his past was without end,
Though steeped in the unknown-
Deep in the soul of Loch Ness,
And famed far beyond Scotland!
Witness of the sunrises of old,
Whose travels are so solitaire.
Mysterious, dusky, fabled giant.
Heart of folklore-noble Scot!
And Creature without any name.
Will our children speak of him,
Someplace, in some future time?
Shall this never be explained:
Who is he? And where is he going?
Five fingers,
ten toes,
two eyes,
one nose,
one tongue,
and two teeth
What have I just described?
The Loch Ness Monster (aka loch nessie)
Nessie lifted her head today for just a second.
I saw it, and thought ‘there she is!’ black skinny neck.
Black face, looked dinosaur-like. I ran flat out toward her.
Was it the “real” Nessie?
She dove down hard, did a disappearing act.
I lifted my green wading pool, looking underneath.
Thinking there was going to be a deep cavern,
But there was nothing but wet leaves and brown earth.
“Looking for a drain were you?” A snotty voice said to me.
I looked up into the eyes of a smug, irritating arch-enemy.
Dhramned Abominable Snowman! Out of all the stalkers in
The world, why did he have to be mine?
The essence of the majestic beast,
heading gracefully towards northeast.
Array of sounds,
howling in the presence of the wolf moon.
As Lock Ness keeps moving through the deep Lagoon.
Intense lightning strikes the backside of the mountain.
It keeps moving on with confidence,
knowing Lock Ness is not in distress,
going to an unknown place,
moving at its own pace.
With the dark water gleaming from the reflection of the night sky above,
Lock Ness will soon be out of plain sight.
It was amazing to see,
such a wonderful mighty creature.
For I just witnessed,
the legendary Loch Ness,
authenticity!
how lonely it must be
furtive and stealth
slithering undercover
to not have one friend

LOCH NESS
Nestled in rugged lap of Scottish highlands
A sprawling lake, the Loch Ness, swerves
In blue hills of old metamorphic rock bands
Lost glacier melt of the ice age it preserves.
The times of huge dinosaurs have long gone
There’s a rustic belief of mixed pride and awe
Vestige of extinct reptile species survives alone
They fondly call Nessie, its age they don’t know.
In mystique nights when the supermoon glows
Struck by the lightning the silver clouds flicker
The lake weaves a tapestry of light and shadow
That’s when they say Nessie swims in azure water.
If you ever try to explore the mysterious lake floor
You may not discover the secret abode of Nessie
Even if you don’t believe in the highlanders’ lore
Lively play of aquatic shadows on water you’d see.
January 1, 2018.
Like a tiny drop of rain glinting
then cracking the surface
where still waters once lie
creates a ripple effect
spreading outward to the farthest reaching shore
Is how so deeply wanting the sight to be more real
makes stories bubble up
as if filling an empty glass with water
and silt, unclear
Like a drizzle turning into a downpour
forces a squinting gaze from across the inland lake
Like a mirror reflecting back basal desires
so we think
Toes digging into the sand for a better reach
leaning, waiting for lightening to strike
proving that the moonlight doesn't lie
That there is a monster deep inside
behind the glass
below the surface
looking through the silt
