Lugubrious blue mood skies funereal and morose shed raindrops,
they unleash tableau vivant torrent’s wet tranche,
blessing, bane or boon from vault of heaven,
damp pearl blob bewitching moisture mellow morph form,
the stuff of less than benign grumpy weather grouch,
whose plight infuses yen for sun-drenched bliss,
haven of the ultra-violet swathe enthusiast,
for others raindrops are a liquid gem relish firmament bequeathed,
to whet voracious craving of nascent pastures,
whose gaunt green blade emaciating stillborn,
that aqueous honey to hue-blazed floral garden in situ bloomers,
who swallow cloudburst drizzle meed in muted slurps,
droplet streak and spiral bubble patten on top hung awning window,
empyrean tear beads that roof top tap dance ritual,
so tantalising to the awestruck spellbound eardrum,
or impromptu downward dribbles on romantic saunterers,
prompting boisterous laughter as they flaunt their dome transparent chromium truss umbrella,
those enraptured red-blooded refugees beneath tilting gust spun bumbershoot,
as mud splatter cherry cheek urchins shriek,
amid the spray and splash globules at agile finger tips

Gumdrops and Raindrops Nursery Rhyme

Raindrops patter in such sweet, sweet songs
How I love their song - to sing along.

Jelly beans bloom in the peppermint's lane
Cinnamon bear showers dance in my brain.

Sour cherry drops hang from Boston bean trees
Whistle pops toot a song for my breeze.

Root beer barrels jive with fruity dots
In storms hot tamales do turkey trots.

Splashing through my puddles of gumdrops green
Lollypop flowers make quite a scene.

Foil wrapped kisses sparkle like rain dews
Sweethearts and sweet tarts play peek-a-boo.

Drizzles rain down flat Necco wafers
I duck hard hail so like hard jaw breakers.

Sassafras sky pounds with taffy torrent rains
As sugar babies chant their sweet refrains.

Abracadabra jujubes appear
Licorice buttons and rock candy clear.

I turn my bumbershoot upside down
To catch tasty rain so I never frown.

Premium Member Miss Valentine Day Kitty

Ms. Valentine’s Day kitty, you are such a hoot!
Traveling a Nebraska cyclone on a bumbershoot!
Enjoy seeing your fluffy soft fur, you darling coot.
It’s still raining away and you have lost a boot.

Here is your sweetie, Tom has been waiting long.
He knows you are worth it, and he is not wrong.
Did you lose your boot where I lost my thong?
Or was it taken by this cyclone, old King Kong?

Ms. Valentine’s Day kitty, so glad you dropped in
There is a teensy bit of kibble wobbling on your chin
A rampant rumor says you have an identical twin
If we four double dated, it would be my win!

Premium Member A Fascinating Contraption

An umbrella is a fascinating contraption
An apparatus with unparalleled import,
It has evolved through many an adaption
So let us never, inadvertently, sell it short.
The English, yes, they call it a bumbershoot
And for years I didn’t know why, but it is,
A combination of umbrella and parachute
Quite extraordinarily sensible, gee whiz.
I have lost twenty or thirty in my lifetime
Not needing it when I am ready to leave
Since it isn’t raining, ‘tis certainly no crime,
Needing it again, though, it’s such a peeve.

I collapse when the weather is bright and sunny
When I am needed, I am nowhere to be found,
On a rainy day I am always pointing to the sky
Without me someone’s going to get drowned.

MOON ISLAND

seaside bumbershoot
harbors
the marooned moon
keeping her all
to himself.

cloudy nights ~
on the mainland.

Rain

Held by a dungeon of torrential rain
It resounded like a quarrel outside
It was an argle-bargle of earth, rain and wind
It blew patterns of a boustrophedon
Being cantankerous from the brouhaha
I took my bumbershoot to the door
The umbrella became discombobulated
The nonsensical wind blew it inside out
A melee of rain furbellfwed my face
A gardylool hadn’t been announced
Thus a television gonzo weather reporter
A nincompoop on the matters of meteorology
And I, a smell fungus, thought, no sun would shine
But, somewhere near, I heard a turdiform, "A Lark?"
To my amazement a vomiter shown from above
The Earth smelled dank mud, spores and green grass
It was petrichor to a doubting Thomas
Was I to trust the rays and Lark?
But, the smell of must from the downpour ~
Meh, on the other hand, gloom and doom
Have always been, my very best friend

Misty

I carried my umbrella but
Despite what I’d supposed,
It wasn’t raining hard enough
And so I kept it closed.

Some people had theirs open
But the lion’s share did not;
My coat remained unblemished
From a raindrop’s polka dot.

My glasses, though, were speckled with
Those droplets made of mist,
A trivial annoyance you
Might think should be dismissed.

Yet still, if on a misty day,
Until the weather passes,
You might unfurl that bumbershoot*
If you are wearing glasses.
