A curious cocktail of odours greets us
as we move in from playground
to corridor, to cloakroom, to classroom.

Beeswax fragrance: freshly buffed parquet.
Brasso smell: base metal turned to gold.
Jeyes Fluid: vapour killing vile germs.
Such alchemy starts our day with clean slate.

Playground cacophony left behind.
Now each...

Remembering Tv of the 1950s
Remembering TV of the 1950s

By Elton Camp

About TV, this little account is told
From when I was twelve years old
Because it was along about then
When TV fascination did begin

The programming choices were few
The channels we received were two
A massive antenna was the only way
There existed no...

Early 1950s In Jacksonville Fl
Wafting on the morning breeze,
During manufacturing
Our whole town enjoyed the scent.
Maxwell House Coffee.

Freshness permeating air.
Aroma percolating.
Infusing memories of…
Grandma’s coffee pot.

Teenage Love 12: Teenage Lovers of the 1950s
It was the 1950s and all teen lovebirds back in the day were the greatest couples in
America. These people were way before all people who were born in the 1980s were born,
even me. It seems that both teen lovebirds (a teen boy-turned elderly man and...

A View of New York In the 1950s
(Dylan Thomas, Oct 1914 – Nov 1953)

I as one who has never touched the shining Big Apple –
as ruthless then as it's ruthless now –
gaze at its romantic pictures
moving on my TV screen
depicting New York's glistening streets
of the nineteen fifties,
the decade Dylan died there.

Screaming lights...

A 1950s Lancashire Life
So you want to hear a story, first of all there is no morning glory. Your feet touch the floor its cold as ice as is the water, what a surprise.

Premium Member Dancing In the Fifties
Throughout the nineteen-fifties, times were neat;
full, long flared skirts and bobby socks gals wore,
while rock and roll and doo-wop moved our feet
to music slow and fast on the dance floor.

Each Saturday, we'd all go to Hi-Y,
where classmates gathered to have fun and dance.
Most partnered with...

Premium Member Simple Pleasures
It's early 'fifties- a group meets
in field of grass, though barren, bare-
a break away from city streets
to share some wholesome country air.

The cars behind are parked to wait
as couples sit, while others stand;
they're here to hear, appreciate
a roving five-piece country band.

No matter that the grass...
