Mom, you were the emotional glue
that held together a family, of thirteen children,
and a husband back from two wars with
post-traumatic stress disorder,
that left him with a drunken disposition.
Teaching us how to enjoy life
you'd played with us, worked with us,
defended us and cried with us,
making our lives tolerable
despite dad's drinking.
You were a remarkable woman,
strong as steel with a heart of gold.
Teaching me to love myself,
you saved me
from sinking into a deep depression
fueled by self-hate and fear.
You were my mom, my friend, my hero,
and my muse; now you're my angel in heaven.
May your soul rest in paradise forever mom,
you've earned it!
