I am honoring all Vietnam Veterans, I am proud to say I am one.

We answered the call to duty And sacrificed our lives, By pledging our allegiance to Protect America's freedoms, In the wake of war cries in the sky. It started at the induction station, When we raised our right hand Promising to fight for God and Country, And maintain freedom in our land. And like our fathers and forefathers Who served in previous wars, We went through vigorous training To become a combatant, a soldier, Who protected our nations shores. We came from many walks of life, Leaving family and friends behind, Going to a far off country Not knowing what dangers We'd find. We went to a place called Vietnam, Where we marched across the land, Going from the city to the jungle, Helping the people fight a war We didn't understand.

Thank you for liking my poetry. I was drafted in 1965 and retired from the Army in October 1993. I live for my writing. Thank you.
