The poem was inspired by Haki R. Madhubuti's poem "For the Consideration of Poets."

Where is the voice that shatters barriers, that refuses to yield to the weight of wealth? Not the phrases cloaked in courteous smiles, not the ones that taste sweet to the affluent, or flatter those who’ve erected their thrones on deceit. Where is the truth that presses down on your chest, the one that makes you sweat and squirm, the one that doesn’t ask for permission to challenge the daily silence? Where is the voice that knows when to shout and when to linger in the shadows and let the stillness speak louder than any falsehood? We need the words that ignite, that tear apart the velvet drapes and reveal the flaws in every polished facade. Not the ones that elicit applause, but the ones that stir discomfort, the ones that leave marks on the spirit and compel the world to see. We need the poetry that stands unapologetic, that doesn’t seek validation from those who gain from amnesia. We need words unrefined, not beautiful or flawless, but raw and untamed, fighting the good fight in the open air, not behind closed doors.
