Unique Reflections

Don’t judge me by the color of my skin, Nor the voice that echoes through a telephone's line. Instead, let my name tell the story of my fight, And let my face reflect the love and the light. Don’t measure my worth by the clothes that I wear, Or the way that my hair sways in the air. For beneath all the surfaces, the layers I shed, You’ll find just a soul, a heart, naked and bare. So, hold back your tongue, let kindness roll of your tongue, Cause nasty words can like daggers in the night. I carry my burdens, my scars you can't see, Just as you carry the weight of your own history. We each have our battles, our secrets to keep, Some rise to the surface, while others run deep. So close your eyes gently, let stillness enfold, Awake to new visions, let compassion take hold. For I am just me, and you are just you, And in this world, we should just come together. Embrace our uniqueness, let judgments fall down low, Together, let’s flourish, let our true colors show.
