To Love and To Lose

To Love and To Lose I've lost track of many things over the years l've lost track of socks Of sweaters Of time Some things I've lost have turned up again My favorite necklace My missing earring My mind I've lost my temper I've lost my way Frantic searches in the night Just to find things by day I've lost my self-loathing I've lost some weight And some of the clothing For the body l used to hate When I look in this box Of everything I've ever lost I see pieces of me That I no longer need I see anger I see a house key I see grief Not everyone is meant to stay Love is still worth the price to pay And sometimes loss looks more like relief
