The Poetry of One So Dear
The poetry of one so dear
Is poignant to the soul
The images of love appear
To dissipate the toll
Our minds are called to witness
What are hearts cannot deny
The future of our fitness
To be fearless when we die
The pail of our emptiness
Reflects a bitter pall
The sail of our restlessness
Before a summer squall
The antidote of selfishness
Is doting on the do
The coating of our joyfulness
Includes our neighbor too
The promises that we pursue
Along the fruited plain
Demand a part of what we do
To finalize the gain
The better part of what survives
And what we hope to be
Is how we learn to live our lives
By loving selflessly.
