The Image

Humility is a fantasy Born out of a narcissistic mind He who appears to care so much Convinces fools with niceties - most times The image pushes away the camera Yet poses with a smile He donates money Anonymous - In devilish style His gospel flows freely He has a restless appetite for the applause We stare in admiration - amazement Convinced - he's doing it for the cause When he’s exposed we say there's Karma A self-justification for ignoring all the signs We were mesmerized by his performance We silently idolized Beware of the image The image could be a reflection of you Perhaps this isn't about admiring him As much as it is about desiring admiration too?

Kelly, it sounds like you are describing a real wolf in sheep's clothing. One whose heart is not truly benevolent, it just wants to appear benevolent in order to be admired. Your real twist was the last line - I believe we are so celebrity-struck because we fantasize about having all that attention. Well written and very thought-provoking ~ John

Thanks John, Yes...I believe most have an agenda. We're all virtue signaling to some degree. We should all work on becoming what we present ourselves to be. Thanks again!!
