The House I Built For Harmony ~pianoforte~
I built a house for Harmony
with twine and polished tree,
with bricks of black and ivory:
four score and five plus three.
The hammered home I made for her
had ne'er been built before:
its roof revealed the inner walls,
and silver lined its floor.
Her other homes were much too small:
I speak of brass and wind--
and strings had hardly room at all
to house her sound within.
Percussion seemed to suit her needs;
'twas favorable in size.
Alas, it too was rather bland
to both the ears and eyes.
I built for dearest Harmony
a house she'd ne'er detest,
with depth and versatility,
with volume and finesse.
She showed her joy and gratitude
each time she used her keys.
I'd knock upon her noted door,
and she would sing for me.
