The Crooked and Straight
My advice honest—
A crooked tree told the rest:
Never be so straight.
It's no idle jest,
The axe first falls on the straight,
Crooked is safest.
Came the axe, in haste
Fell on crooked tree's forked fate,
‘As firewood you're great’.
