The Clouds Have Gone To Play

A Father and son on a park bench eating pie "Dad, Why is there no clouds in the sky?" I didn’t know how to reply So I just said “that’s why” “That’s why?” My son replied I answered “it’s a problem worldwide” “Worldwide! We are talking about the sky” Deep down I was wishing my son had not replied “The clouds have gone to play” I answered as I cleared my airway “Play?” my son replied “What do you mean by play?” I answered “they are back at midday” “Dad, can I have some ice cream now please?” The change of subject felt like a passing breeze Then it came “Dad, why are there no clouds in the sky?” I sighed “Son!” I took a deep breath “ I wish I knew why….”

I laughed aloud at the end of your words.. so typical a child (tho extra special to his dad) to ask and ask til.. patience fades a little. Your words are so gently laid, the meter adding to the sing-song pleasure spent with an innocent child wanting more than .. an adult's imagination cedes to his child's. Perhaps!
