The Caterpillar of the Community

I chew on the leaves And sway in the breeze But soon Will cocoon And say bye to the trees There’s surely no doubt What my life is about As my jaws Are the laws That make me go all out Like a wave I crawl Up and down most all Green plants With the ants Before it turns fall Yet watch for the birds That need no passwords To peck ya And wreck ya Or snip you in thirds And I’ve set the date To somehow pupate In my palace Chrysalis Where I’ll hang and wait For that splendid day When I’ll fly away And blindly Find me A mate on display An opportunity For some unity To thrill her As the ‘pillar’ Of the community

David, your work is truly remarkable. Your vast knowledge of the genus caterpillars is impressive and your clever humor adds an extra layer of brilliance.

Nature at it's best. I'm impressed even with the pun at the end.

David! How moving this is, have you been writing for awhile? I think so, because the cadence, depth and form reflect a bright writer!! How odd you wrote about the life cycle of a caterpillar…..with such clarity.! I was thinking of caterpillars today. When I was very young, boys would step on them. Squish! It was traumatic for me. I have not seen a caterpillar for decades..or butterflies. Merci, good Saturday to you, Pangie

Thanks Pangie. I think unlimited subjects lets a writer explore the world with imagination while they're sitting on their butts, which is a pretty good deal.
