I have been writing and posting limericks exclusively. Seems like an appropriate time to post this sonnet written during D. T.'s first term. Here he's depicted inhaling his entitlements.

An empty leader can feel like a king And every waking minute without pause Seek small brain rewards and shun self-made flaws Expressing great thirst for some bloody bling So what if the weakest lose everything? Steal stuff from the tables of Santa Claus Suck up wealth faster with industry’s straws Make each transaction end with a ka-ching From whom every last drop of gold could spring Take bigger bites with the greediest jaws Justify the cause by chewing up laws Stop all redress, sting the needy and sing: “I can’t get no satisfaction near here So I’ll grab all action others find dear”

Dear duke ; another excellent sonnet that made me smile, some references and ways of describing politicians is sad but funny too when written about. Especially “ Seek small brain rewards” and “ Take bigger bites with the greediest jaws Justify the cause by chewing up laws” couldn’t have said it any better! Brilliant ! Love the flow and rhymes and how youv ended this one too as well the picture youv used. Pleasure reading your work: sending you light always

IE thanks. Seems as though the pattern of leadership here for the next several years and possibly decades has taken a bad turn. Negotiation, compromise, empathy, self-control, fairness, and honor have all been trumped by their evil twins.

Love the Stones reference, Duke. There’s a lot to be dissatisfied about around the world these days. Some think he has the Midas touch I don’t and that’s not the throne he belongs sitting on. I will leave it at that. Love your accompanying visual and my turn to smile at you posting a Sonnet.;-)

Thanks Lin, he thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread, but we no much better. Plenty of reverse Midas is about to happen. It will be quite a show.

Bravo, well said. Unfortunately, I'm less disturbed by Trumps corrupt character than by the character of those who put him into power. His loyalists including Kash Patel have the power of doing some serious damage. Plenty of blame to go around. My best, Robert

Thanks Robert. I completely agree. A huge threat comes from the people he will appoint to his cabinet and those mega donors who expect him to do their bidding. It goes against the founders original beliefs that we should restrict the power at the top. There will be some serious damage and we just wonder now how serious it will be and if we will ever recover from it.

Well first of all, I am gobsmacked to see you post a sonnet!! The flow and rhymes are excellent, which you master so well... I see your sonnet from several years ago applied again in your opinion.. It perfectly reflects on the destructive effects of unchecked greed, where the leader, in their pursuit of personal satisfaction, disregards the welfare of others and the laws that should govern them.

Thanks SO, it does seem to fit our current situation. It doesn't bode well for any of us unfortunately. Hopefully, some of this will be checked by our Congress, but that all remains to be seen. Much of this now has a life of its own.
