Spreading Tendrils

congratulations to the governments & the private enterprises who seek to spy & reap the benefits of those who offer themselves up to you on a silver platter called facebook--- it must have been hard(er) back in the day to get information on people who may or may not have wanted to give it up to you--- after all, there had to be money & time spent, employing agents to sift through documents & build files on people, but today, citizens do it for you! this must drive you both to ecstasy. with names, addresses & all the relationships between people being freely deposited into the well o’ zuckerberg, the spreading tendrils of influence into the lives of individuals seems both constant & without end, for the “need” to be socially networked becomes the norm rather than the exception & it’s gotten to the point that because people update their facebook accounts so quickly, revealing everything about them in real time, well hell, you don’t even need to tap the phones anymore! but one goes about their facebooking innocently--- they tell themselves “i have nothing to hide” “i’ve done nothing wrong” so volunteering every aspect of their lives to the company who collects information from the citizens of the empire doesn’t seem like something to worry about & those who say that it is, get deemed paranoid conspiracy fanatics, so it continues & US intelligence agencies get their work done for FREE & as the database grows so does the file on you, until the day your card gets pulled.

It is disturbing, and i admit i am on there but not for idle chat, just poetry art and still i worry. i love a decent political write and this had me so wishing i hadnt joined but even if your not online at all your pics get loaded by someone else... i wondered the other day did george orwell predict the future or unwittingly create it... probably not as he was reams of intelligence above me and i dont think he did many things accidentally apart from maybe nearly drowning in that loch

@KarenDeeks. Cont.---This is hilarious, really, for the amount of friends can rise with the actual policing in real time & some people wear the amount of friends that they have on facebook on their shoulder as if it was an emblem of an accomplishment of some kind---like I say in the piece, "until their card gets pulled." lol.

@KarenDeeks. Cont.---The funny thing is, the CIA, FBI, NSA, etc. have dummy accounts so that agents can be right there contacting individuals as if they were "friends"---

@KarenDeeks. Cont.---The good thing is that there are still the "Julias" & the "Winstons" who refuse to be a part of it, despite the social pressure to & they still get by, staying socially healthy, holding an even deeper respect for face-to-face friendships, or at least those that do not function in the way that facebook does.

@KarenDeeks. Cont.---. I think Orwell would not be surprised by a private individual capitalizing on the rest of us, first hand (zuckerberg) and then having his project be of such use to the powers that be---to Orwell, it wouldn't matter where the tool to prey on people comes from, only the outcome, which is of course, always the same---perpetuate the status quo & keep people at bay.

@KarenDeeks. First off, thanks so much for reading & for the well thought out comments regarding the piece, but more importantly the issue at hand. The problem here runs deeper in that individuals get sucked into the "need" to be on facebook, which is a culturally deceptive vacuum, as if people would not have friends anymore if they didn't use the interface.

sorry just had to say not only do we have cameras every few yards in our busy bits of town but now council members drive round with cameras fitted on their roofs... disgusting little people, wonder how many friends they have?
