Songs from the past can take you places
Today I opened my social feed to find this post about a song release
It was a favorite of mine from 1994
And just like that I was transported once more ,to a place etched deep into my soul
It's September and I'm 15 years old
I can smell the flannel ,CkOne, and the sharpie I used to write poetry on the soles of my black hightop chucks with
The fresh morning air mixed with the camel wide we shared behind the school before class
I can see brown eyes glowing in the sun, warm like cinnamon, and your smile
The nights I spent laying in bed under the tiny glow in the dark stars on my ceiling listening to Mazzy Star on repeat
"So Tonight that I Might See". Those days when I used to dream big dreams
of the future and possibilities
I dreamt of running away to a life of my own without scars and casualty
I thought I knew how to create a perfect world
And I wanted it more than anything
But in the words of the late Andrew Wood "dreams like this must die "
I didn't know that things wouldn't go as I planned all the pieces crumbled before my eyes falling like sand through an hourglass the steady passing of time can do so much ripping away
things, ppl, and places you love from your life
No one tells you that everything must change they only say, it just does...
