Sojourner
Should I stay amongst the Balsam trees,
animated by the morning breeze?
For I recall that I must leave.
In my journey’s end I cleave.
Should in the shade I stay and hide,
where one for life could abide?
For I recall that I must leave.
In my journey’s end I believe.
Down this trail that’s underfoot trodden,
are tears covering the grass sodden.
For many men have stopped for homage to pay,
to relics along the road that held the day.
With ease they succumb to the harlotry of the road.
With her creature comforts she will easily goad.
But the road is meant to be transient.
Its nature only appears to be benevolent.
For a road is not meant to provide repose.
It has a destination to suppose.
Will you put your faith in a destitute playground?
Where childhood friends are no longer found.
Everyone sojourns on the same highway.
And most get distracted by a tangent byway.
I will not lend my life to fleetingly spend.
For I know the road has an end.
