The bishops glide, on diagonals they roam, Bound by their color, never finding home On squares contrasting, yet a vital force, Shaping the landscape, altering the course. The rooks stand steadfast, power straight and true, Guardians of flanks, with limited purview. Until the opening clears, their might unfurls, A linear force that shakes the other worlds. The queen, a paradox of grace and might, Commanding all the board in darkest night Or brightest dawn, her influence supreme, A fragile power, a strategic dream. And in the center, vulnerable and grand, The king resides, the fate of all the land Resting upon his safety, his careful stride, A single misstep, nowhere left to hide. Each piece a thought, a strategy conceived, A soundless language eloquently believed By minds engaged in this intricate ballet, Where foresight reigns and errors hold their sway.
